Five exceptionally talented incoming West Virginia University freshmen whose academic interests span the fields of humanities, medicine and science are eager to use their curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills to generate new ideas and innovative solutions for a better future as the 2024-25 WVU Foundation Scholars, the highest academic scholarship the University awards.

In partnership with Barnes and Noble College, the WVU Bookstore will launch First Day® Complete this fall, a new course material delivery program for undergraduate students that provides rented course materials at a lower, flat-rate price in a convenient package before the first day of class.

Faculty, staff honored for excellence in advising
Each year, at the direction of the Office of the Provost, the Academic Advising Council selects honorees for the Nicholas Evans Awards for Advising Excellence in recognition of outstanding advising and mentoring provided by faculty and professional advisers at WVU. The 2024 award recipients are Amanda Baker, Kelli George, Tara Robbins and Mark Schraf.

WVU Alumni Association University Chapter hosts book drive
Drop off your new or gently used books between 9 a.m. and noon tomorrow (April 20). For each book donated, participants will receive a pepperoni roll while supplies last. Book donors will also have an opportunity to participate in “WVU Trivia” to win exciting prizes.

Passing of the Rifle Ceremony planned next week
Mikel Hager will officially pass on the rifle and Mountaineer mascot responsibilities to Braden Adkins during the Passing of the Rifle Ceremony Friday, April 26. A reception will be held at 5 p.m. in the Mountainlair Vandalia Lounge followed by the program at 6 p.m. in the Gluck Theatre.

A portrait of Regina Charon, a pioneering civil rights attorney and role model for women entering the legal profession, will be unveiled at 4 p.m. May 3 in the Downtown Library, Robinson Reading Room.
